Common questions about splitting images into grids

Is this image splitter free?

Yes, completely free with no limits. Your images are processed entirely in your browser — nothing is uploaded to any server. You can split as many images as you want.

What grid sizes can I use?

You can choose from preset grids including 2x1, 1x2, 2x2, 3x1, 1x3, 2x3, 3x2, 3x3, and 4x4. You can also enter any custom number of columns and rows up to 20x20.

What is the best grid size for Instagram carousels?

For Instagram carousels, use a 3x1 grid (3 columns, 1 row) to split a wide panoramic image into 3 swipeable slides. You can also use 2x1 for 2 slides or any Nx1 layout depending on how many carousel slides you want.

What image formats are supported?

This tool accepts JPG, PNG, and WebP images up to 50MB. You can choose to download the split tiles as either JPG or PNG format.

How are the split tiles downloaded?

All tiles are packaged into a single ZIP file that downloads to your computer. Each tile is named sequentially (tile-1, tile-2, etc.) following a left-to-right, top-to-bottom order.

Will splitting reduce image quality?

Each tile is cut directly from the original full-resolution image at its native quality. If you choose PNG output, the tiles are lossless. JPG output uses 92% quality by default, which is visually indistinguishable from the original.

Are my images uploaded to a server?

No. All processing happens 100% in your browser using the HTML5 Canvas API and JSZip. Your images never leave your device, making this completely private and secure.

Does this work on mobile devices?

Yes. The image splitter works in all modern mobile browsers. You can upload an image, select a grid, and download the ZIP file directly on your phone or tablet.
