Is this video to GIF converter free?

Yes, completely free with no limits on conversions. Your video is processed entirely in your browser using FFmpeg.wasm — nothing is uploaded to any server.

What video formats are supported?

This tool supports MP4, WebM, and MOV (QuickTime) video files. These cover the vast majority of video formats used on the web and mobile devices.

What is the maximum file size?

You can upload videos up to 500MB. Since processing happens in your browser, very large files may take longer depending on your device's memory and processing power.

How long can the GIF be?

You can create GIFs up to 30 seconds long. Keep in mind that longer GIFs produce larger files — for best results, keep GIFs under 10 seconds and use a lower FPS.

Are my videos uploaded to a server?

No. All processing happens 100% in your browser using FFmpeg.wasm (WebAssembly). Your video files never leave your device.

Why is my GIF file so large?

GIF is an older format with limited compression. To reduce file size: lower the FPS (10 or less), reduce the max width (480px or less), shorten the duration, and avoid complex scenes with lots of motion or color variation.

What FPS should I use?

10 FPS is the best default for most use cases — it looks smooth enough while keeping file size reasonable. Use 5 FPS for simple UI demos and 15-20 FPS only when smoothness is critical.

Can I select a specific part of the video?

Yes. Use the "Start Time" field to set where the GIF begins (in seconds) and "Max Duration" to control how long the GIF lasts. This lets you extract any segment of your video.

Does converting to GIF preserve audio?

No. GIF is an image format and does not support audio. Only the visual frames from your video are included in the resulting GIF.

How can I reduce the GIF file size?

Several strategies help: reduce FPS to 10 or lower, set a smaller max width (320px or 480px), keep the duration short (under 5 seconds), and choose video clips with less motion and fewer colors. This tool uses palette optimization for the best possible quality-to-size ratio.
