Limitations to Be Aware Of

Text extraction works great for PDFs that contain actual text content (most documents created digitally). The converter extracts all readable text and reconstructs it into Word paragraphs.

Complex layouts may lose formatting. Multi-column layouts, tables, headers/footers, and intricate designs may not translate perfectly. The tool focuses on extracting text content rather than pixel-perfect layout reproduction.

Scanned PDFs (images of text) will not produce useful results. This tool extracts digital text from PDFs — it does not perform OCR (optical character recognition). If your PDF is a scanned document, the text cannot be extracted.

Images and graphics embedded in the PDF are not transferred to the Word document. Only text content is extracted and converted.

What types of PDFs work best with this converter?

This converter works best with digitally-created PDFs that contain selectable text — such as documents from Word, Google Docs, LaTeX, or other text-based applications. Simple layouts with straightforward text flow produce the best results.

Can this converter handle scanned PDFs or images of text?

No. This tool extracts digital text embedded in the PDF. Scanned documents (which are essentially images of text) require OCR (Optical Character Recognition) technology to convert the image into text, which this tool does not provide.

Will the formatting be preserved exactly?

The tool extracts text content and attempts to preserve basic paragraph structure and line grouping. However, complex formatting such as multi-column layouts, tables, headers, footers, fonts, and colors will not be preserved exactly. The focus is on extracting readable, editable text.

Are images from the PDF included in the Word document?

No, only text content is extracted and converted. Images, graphics, charts, and other visual elements embedded in the PDF are not transferred to the Word document.

Is there a file size or page limit?

The tool accepts PDFs up to 50MB. Since all processing happens in your browser, very large PDFs with many pages may take longer to process. For best performance, keep PDFs under 200 pages.

What Word format is generated?

The tool generates a .docx file, which is the modern Word format supported by Microsoft Word 2007 and later, Google Docs, LibreOffice, Apple Pages, and virtually all modern word processors.

Can I convert password-protected PDFs?

This tool does not support password-protected or encrypted PDF files. You will need to remove the password protection first using your PDF reader software or our Unlock PDF tool, then upload the unprotected file.

What does the "preserve basic formatting" option do?

When enabled, the converter groups text items by their vertical position on each page to reconstruct lines and paragraphs more accurately. It also applies basic spacing between paragraphs. This produces more readable output for structured documents.
