How do I reduce MP4 file size without losing quality?

Use the High Quality (CRF 23) or Balanced (CRF 28) presets. Both re-encode the video with the efficient H.264 codec at a quality level that is virtually indistinguishable from the original, typically cutting file size by 20-60%.

How much can I reduce the MP4 size in MB?

Typical savings range from 30-80% depending on the source video, quality preset, and resolution settings. For example, a 100MB MP4 usually compresses to 40-60MB with the Balanced preset, and even less if you lower the resolution.

Will compression reduce video quality?

Some quality loss is inherent in video compression, but at the High Quality and Balanced presets the difference is virtually imperceptible to the human eye. You can preview the result before downloading.

Which quality preset should I use?

What is CRF (Constant Rate Factor)?

CRF is a quality parameter used by video encoders like H.264. Lower values mean higher quality and larger files. A CRF of 23 is visually lossless, while 28 is a good balance. Values above 33 produce noticeably smaller files with visible quality reduction.

Can I compress an MP4 and change resolution?

Yes. You can select a lower resolution (1080p, 720p, or 480p) alongside compression to further reduce file size. Downscaling from 4K to 1080p alone can reduce file size by 50% or more.

What is the maximum file size?

This tool accepts MP4 videos up to 500MB. Since processing happens in your browser, very large videos may take longer depending on your device's processing power and available memory.

Can I compress WebM or MOV videos?
