Common questions about using Templated with MCP

What is MCP?

MCP (Model Context Protocol) is an open standard that allows AI assistants to interact with external tools and services. With our MCP server, AI assistants like Claude can directly use your Templated account to generate images, videos, PDFs, manage templates, and access all API features.

Which AI tools support MCP?

Currently, MCP is supported by Claude Desktop (macOS/Windows), Cursor IDE, and other MCP-compatible tools. The ecosystem is growing, with more tools adding MCP support regularly.

How do I set up the Templated MCP server?

You have two options: Remote server (recommended for Cursor) - just add our hosted URL to your config. Local server (required for Claude Desktop) - install via npx. See our GitHub README for detailed setup instructions.

What can I do with the MCP integration?

You can ask your AI assistant to: generate images/videos/PDFs from templates, create new templates with layers, update and clone existing templates, upload images and fonts, manage folders, check your account usage, and more. The MCP server provides access to 25+ tools covering the entire Templated API.

Is my API key secure?

Yes. Your API key is stored locally in your AI tool's configuration file (local mode) or passed via URL parameter to our server (remote mode). It's only sent to Templated's API servers when making requests and is never shared with the AI model itself.
